PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - After being benched during the Steelers win against Cinncinnati on Sunday, Mason Rudolph will remain out as Devlin “Duck” Hodges will start for the Steelers Sunday when the Browns come to Heinz Field.
Coach Mike Tomlin made the announcement during his news conference Tuesday.
“We met as a staff, we’ve decided we’re going to start Duck this week and really the decision is clear for us and some really clear reasons why,” said Tomlin. “Like I talked about after the game, I thought he provided us a spark in game. I’m hopeful that he’s capable of continuing to provide that spark as we step into this stadium.”
Tomlin added that Hodges, “took care of the ball” against the Bengals and that is why he will start this weekend.
What doomed Rudolph said Tomlin is because he wasn’t protecting the ball.
Rudolph has thrown five interceptions in the past two games and went 8 for 16 against the Bengals throwing for 85 yards.
Tomlin says the starting quarterback could change after the Browns game.
“We’re singularly focused on winning this game,” said Tomlin. “We’re putting ourselves in position to win this game . . . that’s where the decision lies. We’ll see where we are after this game, really we have no intended plans beyond this one.”
