PITTSBURGH (93.7 the Fan) - He was at home in Youngstown, Ohio taking care of his daughter when Darrin Hall’s phone rang Tuesday.
“I got a call yesterday morning and said get up here and ready to play.”
And like that, the former Panther went from unemployed tailback to being back on the South Side, this time as a Pittsburgh Steeler, on their practice squad, after spending the last four years at Pitt.
“Growing up Jerome Bettis was playing, actually I have a football he signed at one of the mini-camps, so it’s an unreal feeling,” Hall said.
The current Steelers starting tailback is also familiar, Hall spent his freshman year at Pitt with James Conner.
“We already hugged it up,” Hall said. “He said to get with me and we’ll go over protection, get over the play book and you’ll have it down.”
The need is there as Conner said during his show on 93.7 the Fan yesterday that he has an AC joint strain in his shoulder and likely will be a game-time decision on Sunday against the Colts.
Whether Hall will be active likely stems from how quickly he learns the Steelers offense and how bad Benny Snell’s knee injury is. Jaylen Samuel will return and Trey Edmunds is the only other healthy back on the current roster.
“You always joke about it back at Pitt, but now it’s actually here. I just thank God and get ready to work.
