Pirates outfielder Esmerlyn Valdez has been named the National League Rookie of the Month for July.
“The Magician” had eight home runs last month with an OPS of .942.
He also led rookies with 54 total bases and a .587 slugging percentage.
The 22-year-old also had five doubles and 25 RBI in 25 games in July.
This season, Valdez is currently hitting .262 with 14 home runs.
But, over his past five games, Valdez has only one hit.
