PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - Prior to the game against the Milwaukee Brewers Saturday afternoon at PNC Park, it was announced that Pirates Closer Felipe Vazquez was added to the NL All Star Team, along with Milwaukee Brewers Pitcher Brandon Woodruff.
Vazquez and Woodruff replace Zack Greinke (Personal Reason) of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Brewers Closer Josh Hader (Back Stiffness, according to MLB.Com Brewers Reporter Adam McCalvy).
Vazquez didn't lose hope that he would be named to the NL All Star Roster and it came as a late birthday present for him Saturday.
Vazquez will join Pirates First Baseman Josh Bell in Cleveland next week as the Pirates representatives this year. Bell will also participate in the Home Run Derby on Monday and his first round matchup will be against Ronald Acuna, Jr. of the Atlanta Braves.
"My first year I didn't have an actual roommate in there, so it was kind of awkard cheering for all the guys," said Vazquez. "But, then this year you know I actually have Josh, I'll hand him a gaterade or something (during the Derby). I'm going to be there for him."
