(93.7 The Fan) - Penguins assistant General Manager and general manager of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins is leaving the organization to become the Minnesota Wild GM.

The Wild made the announcement Wednesday afternoon.

Wild owner Craig Leipold said “I am thrilled to announce we have hired Bill Guerin, a four-time Stanley Cup champion, as General Manager of the Minnesota Wild.

Guerin won two Stanley Cups as a player, one with the New Jersey Devils in 1995 and one with the Penguins in 2009.

He then won two more Stanley Cups as the Penguins assistant GM in 2016 and 2017.

Penguins General Manager Jim Rutherford said of Guerin, "His leadership both as a player and in the front office were integral to the team winning three Stanley Cups during his time in Pittsburgh."

Crosby: "I am happy for Billy, and I am going to miss having him around... He is a great leader and was always there for me since the day he came to Pittsburgh. I know he'll be a great general manager."
