PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - The Penguins have re-signed defenseman Marcus Pettersson.
General Manager Jim Rutherford announced the one-year deal Thursday.
Pettersson will make a little over $874,100 this season
“Marcus is a smart, reliable defenseman who improved our defensive corps after coming over from Anaheim last year,” said Rutherford. “We are fortunate to have a good, young defenseman of his caliber in our top-six.”
The 6-foot-3, 177 Pettersson came from the Anaheim Ducks last December in a trade for Daniel Sprong.
In 57 games for the Penguins last season, the 23-year-old scored 2 goals (a career high) and had 17 point. He was a plus 13.
In his second year but still considered a rookie, Pettersson ranked second in assists and third in both points and plus-minus among rookie defensemen.
Pettersson also played in all four playoff games against the Islanders and had an assist in game three.
The Penguins kick off training camp Friday.
