Pittsburgh (93.7 The Fan) - Infielder Nick Gonzales is scheduled to take a physical and sign his first professional contract with the Pirates on Wednesday, according to multiple reports.
The former New Mexico State star was the Pirates first-round selection in the draft, the seventh overall player taken. He arrived in Pittsburgh after coming to terms.
The value assigned to his draft slot is $5,432,400. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported last month that drafted players will only receive up to $100,000 of their bonuses this year. Half of the remaining bonus money is to be paid on July 1, 2021, with the balance owed on July 1, 2022.
