BRADENTON, Fl. (93.7 The Fan) - He pitched the first game ever at LECOM Park (then known as McKechnie Field) in 1968 and on Tuesday Steve Blass broadcasted his last game ever at the ballpark during a Pirates 3-1 win against Detroit.
Blass took a few minutes at the end of the game from the “Steve Blass Radio Booth” in Bradenton to reflect on all the years he has spent in Bradenton.
“I’ll still be down here (during) springtime. I’ll be here as a fan bringing members of my family and people from up north and the Pittsburgh area, I’m looking forward to that. It’s not a sad time; it’s going to be a transition from working the games to enjoying the games.”
Blass will retire at the end of the 2019 Pirates season, with this year being his 60th with the organization.
