Celtics fan who threw water bottle at Kyrie facing felony assault and battery charges

Cole Buckley, the 21-year-old who was arrested for throwing a water bottle at Kyrie Irving after Nets-Celtics Game 4 Sunday night, will be arraigned Tuesday in Boston Municipal Court on charges of assault and battery with a deadly weapon, Boston police have announced.

In addition, a second fan, William Leite, was arrested at TD Garden during that game for assault and battery of a police officer, resisting arrest, disturbing the police and trespassing, stemming from an incident where he was asked to leave after challenging another fan in his section to a fight, per a report in the Boston Herald.

Buckley has been banned for life from TD Garden, and according to NBA Insider Shams Charania, witnesses to the incident told Boston Police that the thrown water bottle grazed Irving’s head.

Sportico legal expert Mike McCann, a law professor at the University of New Hampshire, Tweeted Monday that assault and battery with a dangerous weapon is a felony in Massachusetts, and carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
