Jason Garrett's debut season as the New York Giants offensive coordinator didn't result in too much spark on that side of the coin. In fact, their offensive attack resulted in the second-fewest points (280) and yards (4,794) of all NFL teams throughout the 2020 regular season.

But despite this, the Chargers may look to Garrett as a replacement for recently-fired Black Monday victim Anthony Lynn, according to Ian Rapoport.

Garrett, or whoever the Chargers end up hiring, would step into an enviable role for other job-seeking coaches, considering quarterback Justin Herbert just produced one of the greatest rookie seasons for a passer in league history. Garrett, a former quarterback at Princeton University and for a number of NFL teams, primarily the Cowboys, began his coaching career as the quarterbacks coach for the Miami Dolphins, and he'd have a phenomenal player at the helm in L.A. should the interview lead to his hiring. Garrett has already helped one quarterback turn into a very successful player in Dak Prescott.

Daniel Jones, however, did not show much improvement under Garrett. And while we can all agree on the fact that Jones is not quite the player that Herbert appears to be, it's still worth noting that Jones seemed to show little development in his sophomore campaign with Garrett running the offense. Jones started two more games in 2020, but threw for less than half as many touchdowns as in his rookie season and nearly as many interceptions. Yes, his options (including Saquon Barkley) were oft-injured, but it was still a mess of a year overall.

If Twitter's reaction to Rapoport's report is any indication, this wouldn't be the ideal step in the young Chargers quarterback's career, though this is obviously way too premature to have any real reactions on many fronts.

Again, it's just a request to interview Garrett. It could mean nothing at all, and if Chargers execs read the Twitter outcry, they may have a change of heart. But it could turn into something, which could signal a big change for both the Chargers and the Giants.
