Ron Cook's mother passes away at 97

'I have not met a single person who cared more for their mother and was better to their mom than you were,' said Starkey

Everyone at 93.7 The fan is extending their condolences after Cook and Joe co-host Ron Cook revealed the passing of his mother.

Cook says she passed away on Sunday at the age of 97.


"She was about a month and a week short of her 98th birthday and I was convinced she was going to make 100, my daughter was convinced she was going to make 100, all of her friends," said Cook.

Cook's daughter was able to come up from Atlanta to be with her father and grandmother.

"I know my mother knew she was there. My mother lived for my kid, no doubt."

"I had incredible parents, we all think we have incredible parents and I sure did and to have her at my age, she almost made 98. I still have my daughter, I have the greatest kid in the world," added Cook.

Monday co-host Bob Pompeani told Cook that his mother was so proud of her and her daughter and expressed his condolences.

"She had a great life and I'll always remember her cookies Ron," said Pompeani.

His other co-host Joe Starkey expressed how much Cook loved his mother.

"I mean this, that of all the people I've known, friends, acquaintances, family, I have not met a single person who cared more for their mother and was better to their mom than you were, and it was really something to watch," said Starkey.

Fighting back tears, Cook thanked his co-hosts for their kinds words and added he lost his best friend.

"I called her three times a day. In the morning, I held my breath before she answered right before our show, she listened all the time, I'd call her late in the afternoon before I'd go down and take her dinner and then I'd call her before I'd go to bed and always praying she'd answer the phone but I never wanted her to suffer," said Cook.

Cook said he worked yesterday and today because he needed something to do and while he wanted to call her last night and Monday morning, he says he was blessed to have her in his life.

No other details about Mrs. Cook's passing have been made public and we will respect Ron and his family's privacy during this difficult time.
