You don't normally marvel at outs in a spring training game, but we may have found the exception.
In the second inning of Monday's Grapefruit League game between the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies, Giancarlo Stanton got a 3-0 green light in an at-bat against Chase Anderson. He didn't manage to get on base with his swing, but it was still something to behold:
Earlier this spring, Stanton hit a home run with an exit velocity north of 115 mph:
Stanton has regularly topped the Statcast leaderboards, along with two of his current teammates:
The Yankees acquired Stanton from the Miami Marlins, after he slugged 59 home runs, en route to winning the National League MVP. In his first three seasons with the Yankees, Stanton has hit 45 total home runs, thanks in large part to the fact that he's played in just 199 of a possible 384 games over the past three seasons. Aaron Boone and company are hopeful that as they chase the franchise's 28th World Series title, both Stanton and Aaron Judge are able to stay healthy in 2021.
