It was another spicy week of game action in the Audacy Pittsburgh Fantasy Football League. But what happened in the days after the games is what is really getting the buzz. Let’s get into it…

5 In A Row, Look At ‘Em Go: They scored significantly lowered their projections, but The PM Team…Team got yet another win to stay the hottest team in the league. This one came against Joe Starkey, Joe “Horse” Kapp & sales assistant Andrew Brncic’s Bishop Sycamore 96.24-81.04.
Justin Herbert came through, scoring 31.84 points while Alvin Kamara posted 18.40. The PM Team continues its rise from 12th to now 3rd in the league standings.
HUGE Controversy: Alright, now that we gave the PM Team their due credit, let’s get to the juiciest part of this week.
The Fan Morning Squad won its 4th straight game, 105.40-64.90, to remain in first place in the overall standings.
After the dust had settled on the NFL week of games, many team owners headed over to the waiver wire to see which players might be available to pick up. To the surprise of anyone that took the time to check it out, one big name was sitting there in free agency: DeAndre Hopkins.
Now, in the interest of public reputation protection, we will not reveal who cut Hopkins. It wasn’t an on-air personality, but reports are that it wasn’t a mistake, either. The real kicker to all of this? The first place Fan Morning Squad landed him.
“When I first saw that he was sitting there in the waiver pool, I had to do a double, even triple take to make sure I was seeing it correctly and that it was actually ‘D. Hopkins’ the Arizona wide receiver and not some kicker or backup by the same name and initials,” said Fan Morning Squad co-owner Matt Koll. “When I confirmed it was him, I threw in a, ‘well, why not?’ waiver claim on him because I figured we had no shot of landing him. I certainly wasn’t going to tell anybody he was out there, but every team in the league should be putting a claim in. My jaw hit the floor when I saw him on our bench on Wednesday morning.”
So how did this happen? As it turns out, the waiver system in the Audacy Pittsburgh Fantasy Football League is a rolling one. That means that when you make a claim and successfully add a player, your team is put at the bottom of the list. The rolling system does NOT go in reverse order of the league standings. So because the morning squad hadn’t made a waiver claim in a couple weeks, they were toward the top of the list…and landed one of the best wide receivers in the league.
News of this spread around the league, aided by social media, of course.
League commissioner Chris Mueller was inundated with angry texts from league members demanding answers as to how this happened. These conversations were even brought onto the air on Wednesday, where Andrew Fillipponi called for Mueller to step down as commissioner and be held responsible for not stepping in to stop this move from happening.
It wasn’t just the PM Team either, as even Joe Starkey opened up Thursday morning’s “Cook and Joe Show” by talking about it.
It was the move heard ‘round the league and depending on Hopkins’ injury status the rest of the way, it could just determine how the league championship is determined.
Did Commissioner Mueller do the right thing by allowing this to pass?
