Springer is a pending free agent, and could be the most sought-after free agent on the market after the 2020 season.
Mookie Betts' new contract, which will pay him $392 million over the next 13 years, seemed move Springer up on the free agent priority list for next season.
Springer took note of the deal, said he's happy for Betts, but that it has nothing to do with how his own situation plays out.
Astros general manager James Click has said he's looking forward to conversations with Springer and his agent about extending his contract.
It was Click's predecessor, Jeff Luhnow, who manipulated Springer's service time in such a way that his Major League debut wasn't until 2014, delaying his free agency.
"I don't know," Springer said when asked if he thought the situation was unfair. "I just think at the end of the day, I can only control what I can control. I'm going to go out there and I'm going to play as hard as I can. I'm going try to help this organization win and I'll go from there."
