The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced the next class of the team’s Hall of Fame.
Goalie Marc-Andrew Fleury, defenseman Larry Murphy, General Manager Jim Rutherford and founder Jack McGregor.
The Class of 2026 will be celebrated during a game on November 14 at PPG Paints Arena against the Ottawa Senators.
The first-overall draft pick taken in the 2003 draft, Fleury won three Stanley Cup championships with the Penguins during his 13-year career in Pittsburgh.
The 41-year-old holds several team records including wins and games played.
After leaving Pittsburgh during the Vegas expansion draft, Fleury returned last year to play in a preseason game and retired as a Penguin.
The Penguins say Fleury is the first player of the post-lockout era (going back to 2005) to be voted in unanimously.
Murphy was a critical part of the Penguins’ first two Stanley Cup Championships, playing 410 of his 421 career games in Pittsburgh.
He leads all Penguins defensemen in plus/minus with a +102.
Rutherford was the Penguins GM from June 2014 until January 2021 and his “bold moves and strategic thinking” led to the Penguins back-to-back championships in 2016 and 2017, getting names like Phil Kessel, Patric Hornqvist, Nick Bonino, Trevor Daley, Carl Hagelin and Justin Schultz on the roster.
McGregor was instrumental in the effort to bring an NHL team to Pittsburgh and served as the president of the Penguins from 1967 to 1970.
He died this past January.
The other four names in the class, Tom Barrasso, Jaromir Jager, Chris Kunitz and Ray Shero will be inducted into the Hall of Fame next year.
