Buffalo N.Y. (WGR 550) - The Buffalo Bills announced on Wednesday morning that they would be re-signing safety Damar Hamlin to a one year contract extension.
Hamlin started in 14 games last year for the Bills and in that span recorded two interceptions, one fumble recovery and 89 total tackles. He also started in all three Bills playoff games recording a forced fumble, a sack on Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, and 15 total tackles.
Hamlin is now three years removed from the incident in Week 17 of 2022 when he went into cardiac arrest on the field after a routine tackle against the Cincinnati Bengals. Following the incident, he was transported to a local hospital in Cincinnati where he made a full recovery and even appeared in five games for the Bills the very next season.
Since this happened, Hamlin has been nominated and been a finalist for the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award twice. He also has become a major advocate for CPR training and awareness locally as well as nation wide.
