Central Catholic grad Neal Shipley has special day at Masters

First, Neal Shipley was the only amateur to make the cut at this year's Masters...then he locked up the round of a lifetime.

While playing at the Masters is certainly a life goal for any amateur going into the week at Augusta, playing alongside Tiger Woods would be at the top of that list as well.

And, for Mount Lebanon local, Neal Shipley, he got to live out that dream on Sunday afternoon:

“Very special, it’s a day I’m going to cherish forever,” said Shipley. “He was great to me out there and to have all the patrons out there, rooting both of us on, it was phenomenal.”

Shipley went on to shoot a 1-over 73 on Sunday, win a Silver Cup along the way as the low amateur and even beat Woods head-to-head by four strokes.

He tied for 53rd in his first ever Masters appearance.

A Central Catholic graduate, Shipley helped lead the Vikings to its first two PA state golf championships is school history.

He also won the Pennsylvania State Amateur in 2022.
