Former Pirates relief pitcher Felipe Vasque, convict of over a dozen sex crimes has been signed by a Venezuelan Major League baseball team.
Defending league champions, Marineros de Carabobo or The Sailors of Carabobo, have signed Vazquez for the 2024 season.
In a Tweet (now X) the team posted “The quality left-handed pitcher (MLB) . . . signed as a free agent…”
Vazquez was convicted of statutory sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor, indecent assault and 10 counts of child abuse material.
He was deported from the United States late last year.
Vasquez was arrested in September 2019 and sentenced to two years in prison in August 2021.
He was ordered early this year to be deported from the United States. He was taken into ICE custody in September before he was finally deported.
The 32-year-old is a two-time All-Star and pitched in Pittsburgh for four years before his arrest.
