Chase Claypool could be heading home to play football in Canada.
Taken in the second-round of the 2020 NFL draft, the wide receiver had an encouraging rookie season and looked like he had a bright future.
Fast forward to today.
Claypool was traded to Chicago for their second-round pick. He did little with the Bears and last season was traded to Miami, where he again didn’t produce.
In 19 games with the Bears and Dolphins, Claypool had one touchdown.
We’re well into free agency in the NFL heading into the 2024 season and Claypool remains unsigned.
According to Canadian football website, 3DownNation, Claypool has been added to the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders negotiation list.
Teams in the Canadian Football League can add up to 45 players to their negotiation list.
Those players can be signed as long as they don’t have a contract in another league, like the NFL.
That doesn’t mean he will be playing in the CFL. TSN’s Farhan Lalji says the Roughriders haven’t had any contact with Claypool and there are some NFL teams still showing interest in Claypool.
It’s hard to believe after having an encouraging rookie season and a decent season year, Claypool could end up in the CFL so soon.
