Heisman Trophy winner and Connellsville native Johnny Lujack has died

Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Lujack died Tuesday in Florida following a brief illness. He was 98.

The Connellsville native led Notre Dame to three national championships in the 1940s.

He took two years to serve in the Navy during World War II.

Lujack is considered one of the greatest Fighting Irish players of all time, and was a first-round draft pick of the Chicago Bears, where he played four seasons.

Before his death, Lujack was the oldest living Heisman Trophy winner.

After his NFL career, Lujack spent 40 years at a car dealership in Iowa that he opened with his father-in-law.

Lujack married his was in Iowa in 1948. They had three children together.
