The Jets have reportedly took another step towards an all-out rebuild.
According to multiple reports, Joe Douglas has been fired as general manager, just one month after head coach Robert Saleh was dismissed from his role. Owner Woody Johnson seems ready to wipe the slate clean after one of the most hyped seasons in franchise history quickly descended into disaster, as Gang Green is 3-8 on the season and all but eliminated from playoff contention.
The Jets once again lost a game it had no business losing on Sunday, taking a late lead against the Colts before Anthony Richardson and company drove right down the field for an eventual game-winning touchdown, and Aaron Rodgers couldn’t orchestrate a game-winning drive to save the season.
Douglas, who helped spearhead the blockbuster trade for Rodgers, is now out after five-plus years, exiting with a 30-64 record.
Douglas had some success in the draft, bringing in top talent like Garrett Wilson and Sauce Gardner, but Gardner has regressed in his third NFL season, and other draft acquisitions like Mekhi Becton and Zach Wilson did not pan out.
With the head coach and general manager both gone, it’s safe to assume that a house cleaning is in order, which raises questions about Rodgers’ future in New York. He has told reporters he intends to play in 2025, but with a regime overhaul coupled with Rodgers’ rough season, that could change by the end of the season.
