"It's been bothering him the last couple of days," Baker said before the opening game of the Astros three-game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. "He's on a day-to-day basis. I told him I'd try not to use him under any circumstances (Tuesday) because usually when you use a guy and he smells a hit he's gonna run, and so we'll try to not use him today, maybe even tomorrow, and we'll re-evaluate it tomorrow."
Baker said Brantley's quad injury is related to the ankle injury he suffered last week when he stepped on the foot of Dodgers pitcher Joe Kelly on a play at first base.
"The ankle is connected to the calf and the calf is connected to the knee and the knee is connected to the thigh."
Brantley has played in all four games since the incident with Kelly, but has only been used as a designated hitter or pinch hitter. He's batting .438 with a home run and six RBI so far this season.
