PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Coaches are creatures of routines, they set times and benchmarks for everything, they want a controlled environment for their players. While 2020 has disrupted everything, it’s still a big ask to say to a coach we are changing this week for you.
Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi is trying to break a 4-game losing streak, but also believes in the reason for the change tomorrow.
“I think it's a great idea,” Narduzzi said Monday of stopping all team activities on Election Day to allow players and staff to vote. “I think everybody talks about wanting change, wanting to make an impact, and everybody's vote counts.”
“I think it's important for our kids to get out there and don't complain about the results if you don't put your name on that.”
Narduzzi said he had concerns with the initial schedule of Pitt playing a weeknight game, but coming off a bye week and not playing until Saturday, the timing worked out well.
“So we will not practice tomorrow, and our kids, I would say 50 percent of them, have already voted,” Narduzzi said. “We've got them all registered.
Maybe you've heard throughout the time, really back in the summer had them registered to vote back home and get that taken care of.”
Narduzzi also credited the ACC and Commissioner John Swofford for making the decision to stop activities in the conference before the NCAA made it mandatory.
He said they have conversations about voting with players and isn’t sure what the talk will be like Wednesday morning or if we even know if there will be a winner.
“All we can do is go vote and then after that let everything take care of itself,” Narduzzi said. “We have enough to worry about; I can tell you that. Florida State being the biggest one right now.”
