Cam Newton will be back in New England next season.

According to Jim McBride of The Boston Globe, the Patriots will re-sign Newton to a one-year deal. ESPN's Adam Schefter adds the deal is worth close to $14 million.

The veteran was going to hit free agency next week.

It is unclear what else the team plans on doing at the position, but for now Newton joins Jarrett Stidham and Jake Dolegala in the quarterbacks room.

Newton did not put up the best of passing numbers last season -- 2,656 yards, eight touchdowns and 10 interceptions -- but many believe he will be better in his second year and with better weapons.

The Patriots have the third-most cap space in the entire NFL.
