Rumor: Attendance in Happy Valley in trouble of being low for playoff

Is trouble brewing in Happy Valley?

Penn State fans have no room to talk if they don't show up

The Fan’s Andrew Fillipponi says there is a rumor that attendance at Beaver Stadium for Penn State’s home playoff game against SMU will be lower than normal.

Poni says there is a rumor that there may be 70 to 75,000 people going inside for the game, well short of the over 106,000-seat capacity.

As of Thursday afternoon, tickets are available for less than $50 and Poni says prices may drop even more.

“Honestly, from what I’ve heard, it’s going to get to a point where people are going to be able to get in for less than $20,” said Poni.

Several reasons for the low attendance could be due to students on winter break, expensive hotels and hotels booked up around the area and SMU not being an exciting opponent.

But, for a college football fanbase that likes to rag on low attendance at Acrisure Stadium for Pitt games, it’s not a good look.

“I don’t care if you’re a kid home on Christmas and (you live outside of Centre County) Make a day trip out of it, get your ass to that game or stop comparing everyone else’s lower attendance to yours forever! You lose your privileges,” said Chris Mueller.

Even with all those factors working against Penn State, it’s the first-ever college football playoff game and it’s at home.

Poni and Mueller they Nittany Lion fans need to show up.

“We are…not going to this game,” mocked Mullsy. “We are…watching on TV.”
