PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) — The Pittsburgh Penguins named a new assistant general manager on Wednesday, and they stayed in-house for the move.

Announced by general manager Jim Rutherford, Patrik Allvin was promoted into the assistant GM role.

Allvin has been a part of the Penguins organization for going on 15 years.

He originally got his start with the Penguins during the 2006-2007 season and was designated to act as a European scout.

His most recent position before the promotion was Director of Amateur Scouting, a role he started in 2017.

“Patrik has made a lot of contributions during his 14 years with Pittsburgh, and has proven to be a valuable asset for us,” Rutherford said. “We’ve been impressed with his hockey knowledge and work ethic, and I look forward to working more closely with him.”

Allvin will continue to work in amateur scouting for the team in both Europe and North America, but he will also be working with Rutherford more directly in “all aspects of hockey operations.”

Allvin broke into the scouting scene during the 2002 campaign when he began his career as a European scout for the Montreal Canadiens.

Allvin also had a nine-year playing career across numerous leagues in North America and Europe.

In North America specifically, Allvin spent a two-year stint between the Atlanta Knights, Nashville Knights, Pensacola Ice Pilots of the ECHL, and the Quebec Rafales of the International Hockey League.
