Champagnie ACC Player of the Week for third time

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – For the third time this season, Pitt sophomore Justin Champagnie was named the ACC Player of the Week. This time it was a mixed bag of results.

Champagnie averaged 24 points, 11 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.5 blocks while shooting 70% from the floor and 60% from three in a win over Duke and a loss at Wake Forest.

He joins Lamar Patterson as the only Panthers to named ACC Player of the Week three times in a season.  Pitt has never had a player, in any conference, named four times in a season.

Some other notable Pitt players who accomplished player of the week honors three times-Sam Young (Big East), Carl Krauser (Big East), Brandin Knight (Big East) and Vonteego Cummings (Big East).

Clyde Vaughan and Sam Clancy each named player of the week three times in two different seasons.  Vaughn in ’81-82 in the Eastern 8 and ’82-83 in the Big East.  Clancy in ’78-79 and ’80-81 in the Eastern 8.

Champagnie is the first repeat ACC Player of the Week since North Carolina’s Joel Berry in 2017.
