PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – As he’s preparing for a matchup at 14 Notre Dame on Saturday, Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi did offer some insight into the future of the season’s starting quarterback for the first five weeks.

Narduzzi asked if Phil Jurkovec has moved to tight end after being dropped to back-up and then to third-string quarterback.

“That’s not for me to decide what he is doing,” Narduzzi said Thursday. “He wants to play a little bit over there. He doesn’t have a position change, but he’s played on the kickoff return, on the punt team. He’ll play anything. He’s going anywhere we can get him in.”

On this week’s roster released, the former Pine-Richland star was still listed as the third-string quarterback. Gavin Bartholomew is the starting tight end, the rest of the depth at that position

·     2nd-Senior Karter Johnson (6’2”, 255 pounds) or
·     2nd-Senior Malcolm Epps (6’6”, 255 pounds) transfer from Texas and USC
·     4th-Sophomore Jake Renda (6’4”, 230 pounds)

Pitt tight ends coach Tim Salem was not permitted to answer a question about Jurkovec’s role earlier in the week. Jurkovec did start his career at Notre Dame, so an opportunity to play somewhere in South Bend Saturday undoubtably would mean a lot to him.
