PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Once again the Panthers go to the transfer portal for a quarterback, but not one battling injuries or a one-year grad transfer, but one with four years of eligibility remaining and one of the best recruits in the nation last year.

Alabama freshman quarterback Eli Holstein announced on social media he will transfer to Pitt.

The 6’4”, 237-pound Holstein signed with Alabama 13 months ago as the 22nd best overall player in the nation according to ESPN and unanimously a top 10 quarterback in last year’s recruiting class. As a three-year starter at Zachary High School in Louisiana, Holstein threw for 7,014 yards, 62 touchdowns and 13 interceptions while rushing for 1,233 yards and 30 touchdowns. He was the Louisiana Player of the Year, leading his team to a state championship as a junior. He initially chose Alabama over offers from Georgia, LSU, Auburn, Florida and Texas A&M.

Holstein joins juniors Nate Yarnell and Christian Veilleux and redshirt freshman Ty Dieffenbach from California in the quarterback room for the 2024 season.
