The Atlantic Coast Conference is in real danger of not having a team in this year's college football playoffs.
Statistical website FiveThirtyEight says "if the playoffs were held out today, the ACC would be shut out by a country mile."
And while at this point there isn't a good chance of it happening, they say the one team that could save the conference in 2021 is Pitt.
Pitt along with North Carolina State and Wake Forest currently have the best odds in the conference of making the playoffs.
Pitt is at 14 percent, still a ways away from those schools leading the SEC, Big 12, and Big Ten. Only the Pac-12's Oregon has worse playoff odds in the Power Five with 13 percent.
While a trip to the college football playoff is a lofty goal for Pitt, this is the program's best chance of winning an ACC Championship since joining the ACC in 2013.
Sports-Reference.com's Simple Ratings System shows that Pitt is having its best season since 1982 when Dan Marino was the Panther's quarterback.
FiveThirtyEight points out that may be far-fetched but considering the season Kenny Pickett is having, this is the best chance the Panthers have had to make some noise since the Marino-era.
According to FiveThirtyEight, Georgia, Oklahoma, Alabama and Cincinnati are currently estimated to make the playoffs with currently 8th behind Ohio State, Michigan and Oklahoma State.
Pitt's chances of winning the National Title? Three percent.
