Pitt sets records vs Bucknell, James Franklin next

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) –James Franklin and Virginia Tech are next on Friday after Pitt blew out Bucknell 59-0 Saturday at Acrisure Stadium. In the game the Panthers set the all-time offensive yardage (766 yards), passing yards (574 yards) and passing touchdowns (8) records.

Mason moving

After not throwing a touchdown pass in the last couple of wins, Mason Heintschel threw three in the first 19:59.

• 4^th down throw to Censere Lee for 19-yard score
• Rolling out to his right, Heintschel squeezed one into TE Carson Kent at the front right pylon for a 3-yard TD
• Finished a 75-yard drive with an 8-yard TD to Demetrius McCray, included 21-yard Heintschel scramble from end-to-end on 3^rd and 3.
• Lee caught his second touchdown just before the two-minute warning, 10 yards to end an 83-yard drive
• Heintschel finished off the first half with a 48-yard deep pass to McCray to make it 35-0

Heintschel finished the half 22 of 30 for 288 yards and 5 touchdowns.

The sophomore would play the first couple of drives with the second one ending in a third touchdown to Lee from 7 yards.

Overall, Heintschel 29-37 for 403 yards and 6 TD passes. It’s the first Pitt quarterback to ever have multiple six-touchdown passing games.

"We were able to work on our passing game today which was big for us," Heintschel said. "Everybody saw we struggled a little bit with it last week and I think we were able to get back on the same page for the most part. I'm excited for what we are going to do next week. I'm excited to head to Virginia Tech and be able to improve this week and be ready to go."

The next touchdown was a great catch by freshman Bryan Hamilton, 36 yards while being interfered with on the 4^th and 2 throw from backup QB Holden Geriner.

Final score came from freshman quarterback Corey Dailey to Tyreek Robinson for 18 yards.

Hokies Saturday

Virginia Tech improved to 4-0 coming back from down 14-6 in the fourth quarter to win 21-14 at Boston College. Tailback Jeffrey Overton rushed 25 times for 209 yards including the game-winning 76-yard touchdown run with 4:58 to play. Penn State transfer quarterback Ehtan Grunkemeyer was 22 of 35 for 147 yards and a touchdown.

"It's going to be a great atmosphere," Heintschel said. "It's a great football team we are going up against. There is no pressure, you want to go in and apply the pressure. We're excited for that test."

"I'm excited to go on the road," said Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi. "I love being on the road. Excited to go down to Blacksburg and play Virginia Tech on a Friday night. Another short week. The work starts as soon as I walk out that door. Can't wait to start watching some Boston College-Virginia Tech tape, probably in a monsoon like we played in -- probably worse than what we played in a couple weeks ago."

"But excited to go on the road. I think our kids are. They seemed pumped up in the locker room after the game. I mean, it's fun to play at home. It's also fun to go on the road and play in a different atmosphere and see our guys face that adversity."
