PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Another first for the number one team in the nation, Pitt is the number one overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, which had never happened previously in program history.

Ranked number one in the last 12 Top 25 volleyball polls, the 29-1 Pitt women’s team named a top seed Sunday as the brackets were revealed and will host the first four rounds of the NCAA Tournament with the Final Four in Louisville.

The ACC Champions begin their play Friday night at 7p at the Petersen Events Center against Morehead State. With a win, they would host the winner of Oklahoma/UTEP Saturday night at 7p.

It’s the ninth straight season Pitt has advanced to the NCAA Tournament and are 22-19 overall in the postseason, 19-8 under Dan Fisher and made three straight Final Fours, the only team in the nation to accomplish that.

Other higher seeds in the Panthers bracket—second-seed SMU, the only team to beat Pitt his year, 3-seed Kentucky, 4-seed Oregon, 6-seed Minnesota. Along with Pitt as top seeds, Louisville, Nebraska and Penn State. The Panthers are 3-0 against those schools in 2024.

Pitt ends the regular season with the top percentage offense and defense in all of NCAA Division 1 volleyball along with being the top power conference team in aces per set. Pitt led by All-Americans Olivia Babcock, Torrey Stafford, Rachel Fairbanks and Emmy Klika along with veterans Valeria Vazquez-Gomez, Cat Flood and Bre Kelley.
