Pitt’s first Black varsity football player has died at the age of 97.
In the 1940s, Jimmy Joe Robinson led the Panthers in rushing, receiving and scoring in 1945, 47 and 48.
A Connellsville native, Robinson was drafted by the Browns and later played for the Steelers after serving in the Korean War and would later become the Reverend Jimmy Joe Robinson.
"Jimmy Joe didn't just wear the uniform—he wore the weight of history, and he carried it with strength and grace," said Pitt head football coach Pat Narduzzi. "He helped change this program forever."
Pitt paid tribute you Robinson. You can see that HERE.
