PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Five Pitt seniors received individual awards Monday after the 47-14 win over Virginia Tech on Saturday, their final game at Heinz Field.
Kenny Pickett named the ACC Quarterback of the Week. DJ Turner named the ACC Wide Receiver of the Week. Bryce Hargrove named ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week. Safety Damar Hamlin named Co-Defensive Back of the Week. Kicker Alex Kessman named Specialist of the Week
Pickett threw for 404 yards with three touchdowns (one rushing) and had career-highs in completions (35) and attempts (52). Despite playing in fewer games, Pickett is third in the ACC in passing yards
Turner, in his first season at Pitt after transferring from Maryland, had the second most receptions by a Panthers player ever with 15; that included a 64-yard touchdown. Turner totaled 184 receiving yards, two shy of his previous career-high set against NC State last month.
Hargrove was one of only two regular starting offensive lineman who played last Saturday due to COVID-19 protocols and helped Pitt to the 47 points, 556 total yards and 30 first downs.
Hamlin had a game-high 11 tackles including three critical stops on fourth down. The Central Catholic grad is Pitt's leading tackler with 57.
Kessman scored 11 points with a trio of field goals, a pair of those of 50-plus yards (53.52). Kessman holds the NCAA record with a 66.7% success rate from over 50 yards with a minimum of 15 attempts.
The Panthers play at number 4 Clemson Saturday at 3:30. Hear it on the Pitt flagship 93.7 The Fan and on 100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA.
