Steelers Head Coach Mike McCarthy says it was his decision to not play cornerback Joey Porter Jr. on Sunday.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, McCarthy said that Porter was still “ramping up” for the season.

Porter was ruled inactive for the Falcons game with a back injury.

“My concern for Joey . . . is to get him to a spot no different than everybody else in training camp,” said McCarthy, saying it isn’t any different compared to another player.

But, he did say “it is different that there’s a business component to it.”

McCarthy said he expects Porter to play when he is ready and starts practicing in full but did say when he would return.

“Hopefully he’s gets a step further of being ready to play and the business situation will be a business situation, this is the most I’ve frankly ever talked about a business situation, so I think I’ll stop right here,” said McCarthy.
