CRANBERRY TWP (93.7 The Fan) –Minnesota will stay with their goalie rotation in the brief time Marc-Andre Fleury has been with the team. He won’t play against the Pens Thursday night, Cam Talbot gets the start in net.
It’s only been two games since Fleury was acquired from the Blackhawks at the trade deadline for a conditional first-round pick. Not surprisingly he’s been well-received, not just for his magnetic personality. Fleury has stopped 55 of 58 shots and is 2-0 as a member of the Wild.
The Minnesota community has now started a routine following Fleury wins. They leave flowers for the Flower.
It’s in honor of Fleury’s nickname, fans have thrown bouquets of flowers onto the ice after the two home victories. He has never had this happen in any of his other 511 career wins, it’s just been a Minnesota thing.
Fleury has urged fans not to waste their money, joking he decorates his hotel room with them.
“It still feels like you are figure skating picking up those flowers,” Fleury said followed by his trademark smile.
Fleury has also confirmed on TNT that he indeed did stop a trade to the Washington Capitals because ‘it just didn’t seem right’ to join the Caps after the battles he had with the Pens.
Wild head coach Dean Evason was unaware of the fans gesture to Fleury, he deadpanned ‘what will they throw on the ice for Cam?’
Pens fans hope they won’t find out.
