Former Penguins forward Kasperi Kapanen has been fined by a Finish court for drunk driving.
A news outlet out of Finland called Ilta=Sanomat says Kapanen must pay “daily fines of 408,700 euros.”
The outlet says Kapanen “fell off the wheel in Siilinjarvi on August 1, 2023.”
Prosecutors wanted a 45-day prison sentence but setting on a fine.
Kapanen commented on the issue in a release after the incident:
“Last month I made a mistake that cannot be accepted, and I take full responsibility for my actions. I apologize to my family, the Blues organisation, my teammates and the fans. I understand the seriousness of my act and I will do everything to earn my trust back.”
The Penguins placed Kapanen on waivers in February 2023.
He was picked up by the St. Louis Blues.
He’s played in 42 games for the Blues this season with 4 goals and 9 assists and is a minus 6.
He’s currently injured with a lower-body injury.
Kapanen struggled in Pittsburgh with 29 goals and 53 assists over 162 games over the past three years.
