The Penguins have their General Manager, it's current President of Hockey Operations Kyle Dubas.
"At this time, I feel it is best for continuity that I formally continue in both roles as President and General Manager in the hockey operations department," said Dubas in a statement. "We will continue to reevaluate the GM position alongside all others in future off-seasons, to ensure that we are optimizing all facets of the department. We have a small but extremely dedicated management team here, and I have come to know each of them quite well over the last couple of months. We have also added both Jason Spezza and Vukie Mpofu to provide us with a nice mixture of playing experience, front office acumen, and growth potential."
The also promoted four people in the organization including Phil Kessel's sister and a former Penguins player.
Andy Saucier as Director of Professional Personnel Erik Heasley as Director of Minor League and Amateur Scouting Operations Amanda Kessel as Special Assistant to the President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Trevor Daley as Special Assistant to the President of Hockey Operations and General Manager.
Unlike Hextall or even Jim Rutherford before him, Dubas never played in the NHL. He hasn't played competitive hockey since he was 14-years-old due to dealing with concussions. He was a Sports Management graduate of Brock University near Toronto and started his career, at least for a short time, as a player agent.
He was then a scout for a few years in the Ontario Hockey League before becoming the general manager of the Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario Greyhounds at age 26.
Dubas was hired by the Toronto Maple Leafs as an assistant general manager in 2014 and then was the General Manager of the AHL's Toronto Marlies for four seasons (winning the Calder Cup in 2018) before becoming the second-youngest GM in NHL history when the Maple Leafs promoted him in 2018.
This season was the first Toronto got past the first round of the playoffs during his tenure and the Maple Leafs lost in the second round to eighth-seeded Florida four games to one.
