Pirates call up veteran lefty pitcher and catcher

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – With the MLB rosters being expanded by two in September the Pirates are adding a pair of veterans to the roster.

LHP Brandon Eisert

• The 28-year-old pitched seven games with the Pirates after being acquired from the White Sox. He pitched 7 innings, 10 hits, 6 runs, 4 walks, 8 strikeouts, 7.71 ERA, 2.00 WHIP and .345 batting average against. With the White Sox this season 2-1, 5.93 ERA, 25 games, 27.1 innings, 26 hits, 8 walks, 32 strikeouts, 1.24 WHIP, .243 BA against. Lefties hit .196 against him this season.

C-Christian Bethancourt

• He’ll be 35 tomorrow and in AAA this year hit .270/.811 OPS with 9 doubles, 14 home runs and 45 RBIs. The right-handed hitter last played in the majors in 2024, between Miami and the Cubs .209/.608 OPS, 7 doubles, 5 home runs in 62 games.

Pirates also put catcher/first baseman Endy Rodriguez on the 60-day injured list due to the hip issue that needed surgery. That freed up the 40-man roster spot for Bethancourt.
