PITTSBURGH (93.7 the Fan) In huge Pittsburgh Penguins news, Evgeni Malkin has switched jerseys!
Not yet playing a game in the 2021-22 season, Malkin has been practicing with the team for a while now, but in a white non-contact jersey.
At a Saturday practice following an overtime win over the Buffalo Sabres, Malkin stepped onto the ice in a regular black practice jersey.
That's big stuff and he is getting closer and closer to returning to games.
The Penguins are in pretty good shape without Geno, but adding a future Hall of Famer back to the lineup should only improve the team.
This doesn't mean Malkin will be in the lineup next game, but it's a step in the right direction.
There is still no time table available, and Malkin didn't work on either power play unit like he has been.
He was, however, placed on the left wing in place of Jason Zucker on the Jeff Carter/Danton Heinen line.
We will continue to wait for an official Malkin return, but this is a huge step forward.
Mike Sullivan stated that Malkin, while wearing a black jersey, was still only practicing with partial contact.
