The Penguins are trading defenseman Brett Kulak to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for defenseman Samuel Girard and a 2nd-round pick.
The Penguins made the deal official on Tuesday just before 1 p.m.
The 27-year-old Girard is under contract through the end of next season for $5 million a year.
Girard has 12 points this season (three goals, nine assists through 40 games with the Avalanche.
Kulak was traded to Pittsburgh earlier this season as part of the deal that sent goaltender Tristan Jarry to Edmonton.
The 32-year-old Kulak had one goal and six assists over 25 games with Pittsburgh.
Girard has 37 goals and 198 assists lifetime over 588 games between Nashville and Colorado.
The Penguins are also getting a 2028 2nd-round pick.
The Penguins now have 34 total draft picks over the next four years.
The first game after the Olympic break is Thursday night at PPG Paints Arena against the New Jersey Devils.
