The Penguins have hired David Quinn as an assistant coach, team General Manager Kyle Dubas announced Wednesday morning.
Quinn, who has head coaching experience with the Sharks and Rangers, will oversee the Pens defense.
“David Quinn brings a wealth of coaching and developmental experience across the highest levels of professional and international hockey,” said Dubas. “Quinn has a long track record of helping elite defensemen reach their full potential, and we look forward to the impact he can make on our defensive group and our entire program. Coach Quinn’s experience, character, energy and enthusiasm make him a great fit for Coach Sullivan’s coaching staff.”
Quinn has 30 years of coaching experience in total and was drafted by the then Minnesota North Stars in 1984 but never played in the NHL.
He replaces Todd Reirden who was let go after the end of this past season.
Reirden has criticized for the Penguins struggling power play, which he coached.
The Penguins have not made the playoffs the past two seasons.
