PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Pens added another piece to the front office on Monday, days before the NHL Draft.
The team named Vukie Mpofu their Director of Hockey Operations and Legal Affairs. It means the 27=year-old Mpofu will be the salary cap and contract leader for the organization. He will also head the Penguins Hockey Research and Development Department after spending the last two seasons with the Manager of Hockey Operations and Legal Affairs with the Los Angeles Kings. He started his NHL career as an intern with Las Vegas.
“We are very excited to have Vukie Mpofu join the Penguins management team today,” said Penguins President Kyle Dubas in a statement released by the team. “Vukie has accrued great experience the last several seasons with Vegas and Los Angeles after graduating from Law School at UCLA. In the process of completing this hire, Vukie came highly recommended from everyone he has interacted with in the game and he was most impressive throughout. He has great potential and we look forward to welcoming him to Pittsburgh.”
A native of Saskatoon, Mpofu played two seasons in the Western Hockey League before attending and graduating from the University of Saskatchewan with a political science degree and then his Juns Doctor at UCLA in media, entertainment, technology and sports law.
