Pittsburgh (93.7 The Fan) - The Pens outlast the Dallas Stars 2-1 in a shootout win Saturday night at PPG Paints Arena. The win snaps a 3-game losing skid for Pittsburgh.
The Penguins opened up the third period by ending Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger's scoreless streak. He hadn't allowed a goal in 188:52 of game time. Connor Dewar shot a backhander that deflected off defenseman Lian Bichsel's stick and got past Oettinger stick side to give the Pens a 1-0 lead with 18:03 remaining in the game.
With 29.1 remaining in the hockey game, the Stars had a 6 on 5 with Oettinger pulled, Tyler Seguin redirected Jason Robertson's wrist shot to tie the game and send the hockey game to overtime.
In overtime, the Pens had plenty of chances. Roope Hintz blocked a slap shot with Jake Oettinger away from the net that would have won it. Then Pittsburgh had a 3-on-1 chance but Egor Chinakhov's pass was intercepted by Thomas Harley and that stopped the rush. Evgeni Malkin had two great looks in the final minute but Oettinger denied him on the five-hole both times.

"I thought the execution was better, there's always going to be moments in the game but I thought we stuck with it and kind of built our game in the first period, we stayed with it and got contributions from all four lines. That's what you want to see. There were a lot of positives to take from it. Definitely a lot of positives just coming off those last couple of games. You're coming back off the road, you're playing a really good Dallas team, not feeling great about the last couple we've had, not just score wise but process wise. So when the guys are coming in tired and put in that effort, it's an exciting step for us to take," said head coach Dan Muse.
Silovs was strong in the win. He made 24 saves on 25 shots. Pittsburgh blocked 15 shots.
"I think especially when a team has really good players you try to get space away from them and force them to shoot into ways they're not comfortable. We did a good job with that today," said Silovs after the game.
"He was in good spots. Even when there were breakdowns there was a calmness for us because of the way he's going about things. He's continuing to take steps and that's what you want to see with all of our players and that's what you saw there," said Muse.
