93.7 The Fan (PITTSBURGH) - The Penguins couldn't figure out Jonathan Quick as he shut them out 1-0 Wednesday night.
Past the 5 minute mark into the game, Ryan Graves had his pass intercepted by Mika Zibanejad and he passed it to Alexis Lafrenière who scored a backhanded goal on a breakaway to make it 1-0 Rangers.
With 4:30 to play in the first period, the Penguins were on the power play and moved the puck into the Rangers zone, Jonathan Quick had his glove knocked off his hand as Alex Nylander took a shot at the net past Quick, who still tried to make the save barehanded. New York challenged the play for the Penguins being offside and they won the challenge, negating the goal.
The Penguins thought they would see Igor Shesterkin in net on Wednesday but it was the veteran Quick who continued his dominance with the Rangers. Quick made 32 saves on net on 32 attempts and improved to 4-0-1. Tristan Jarry was great in net, but was unable to get any goal support, as the lone goal he gave up was the difference of the game.
The Penguins couldn't get the power play going in the game as they finished 0/5.
"I think it was a struggle on the power play tonight," said head coach Mike Sullivan. "With each additional power play these guys care enough a lot, they have a lot of pride, and when it doesn't go the right way, they put a lot of pressure on themselves to make it work. I think that was the case tonight, I think we were forcing it a bit. I think as a result we were forcing it, we looked robotic."
