PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – He was brought in to be a steadying force on the third line. A grinding player who had won a Stanley Cup and could help the Pens get back to challenging for one. Tuesday he was traded for prospects.
Center Lars Eller was sent back to the team he won a championship with, Washington, for third and fifth round draft picks.
The 35-year-old had seven points in 17 games this year and was a minus four on the season. Eller was outspoken, honest, not afraid to call it as he saw it during his 99 games with the Pens. Last season he played all 82 games with 15 goals, 16 assists and and minus one. The 15 goals where the most since 2019-20 with the Caps.
Pens are in seventh place in the Metropolitan Division, two points from the basement with a 6-11 record and coming off a 7-1 loss to Dallas on Monday night.
