PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Getting the overtime win over Detroit, the Pens not only helped themselves, but some help from the NHL scoreboard on Thursday night.

The biggest was the Buffalo Sabres beating Washington 4-2, that is a big loss for the Caps. Two other teams still in contention won-the Islanders beat the Montreal 3-2 in overtime and the Flyers are still alive after a 4-1 win over the Rangers.

Ideally the Pens don’t allow a point to the Red Wings, but they do own the season series against Detroit. Here are the updated standings with the Pens in the second Wild Card holding a one-point lead over three teams.
