Report: New potential Pittsburgh Penguins buyer emerges

Move over Mario? According to Canadian sports outlet Sportsnet, a family from the Chicago area “has emerged as a serous contender” to by the Penguins.

The Hoffmann family is reportedly interested in buying the 5-time Stanley Cup Championship franchise from Fenway Sports Group, which purchased the Penguins from the Lemieux Group in 2021.

The Hoffmann Family of Companies, currently owns the ECHL’s Florida Everblades franchise.

The Hoffmann Family of Companies owns and/or has investments in media & marketing, real estate, manufacturing, hospitality, transportation, agriculture and more.

Fenway Sports Group purchased the Penguins for around $900 million and sportsnet expects them to sell it for near $1.75 billion.

According to the Elliotte Friedman, host of the 32 Thoughts Podcast, at last check, Lemieux and his partner, Ron Burkle, were far away from the asking price.
