On January 27, Jim Rutherford abruptly resigned his position as the Pittsburgh Penguins general manager, forcing the organization to scramble to find a new GM.

Rutherford cited personal reasons for leaving and said health played no factor. There is speculation that he left due to a clash with management, but no real reason has been revealed.

Now, it looks like Rutherford is working to get back into the hockey world.

PBI Sports agent Neil Glasberg has announced that the Hall of Famer is now representing Rutherford “for NHL management opportunities.”

Rutherford told The Fan back when he resigned that he would take some time off to decide what his future would be and remarked that the he was not necessarily retiring.

The 72-year-old Rutherford had been the Penguins GM since 2014.

The Penguins continued to make the playoffs every year while Rutherford was in charge, including back-to-back Stanley Cup Championships in 2016 and 2017.
