Tristan Jarry recalled, Blomqvist sent down

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Asked directly about keeping Joel Blomqvist in the NHL after his worst start Sunday, head coach Mike Sullivan said he’s trying to find his way. Monday, Pens GM Kyle Dubas decided the best path was to send him back down to the minors as Tristan Jarry was recalled.

Blomqvist gave up six goals on 33 shots against the Maple Leafs on Sunday. In half of his 12 career starts this season, the 23-year-old gave up at least four goals, Sunday being the worst. The 23-year-old said he remained confident and believes those experiences help.

The numbers are worst on the team as Blomqvist had a 3.81 goals against average and .885 save percentage.

Jarry was sent down after giving up three goals on 17 shots against Seattle on January 14. The idea to give Blomqvist the chance to play at the NHL level. The 29-year-old had a 3.31 goals against average and .886 save percentage in 21 starts this season in the NHL this season. In 12 games in the AHL, a 2.67 goals against average and .908 save percentage.
